About Us

About Cedar Tree

Cedar Tree Native Law LLP (“Cedar Tree” or the “Firm”) brings extensive experience working in Indian Country to provide tribal governments, corporations, agencies, and communities with superior legal services in all areas of the law while honoring the integrity and the rich cultures of the clients that we serve.

Rooted in Advocacy

As a 100% Native-woman owned firm, our shareholders have firsthand appreciation for the sacrifices that our ancestors made for us to be here today, and as such, we carry a duty to continue advocating for the protections and advancement of the rights our ancestors fought for and many died to preserve. This fighting spirit lives on in our team and we incorporate that spirit in our commitment to our clients.

Our efforts are designed to empower tribal entities to establish internal practices and protocols that strengthen their organization. Unlike other firms or entities, our goal is not to create a system of dependence on our services or expertise, but rather to share our knowledge with tribal personnel so that our clients can develop strong, self-sufficient institutions.

In Loving Memory of

Michelle M. Fox

Founding Partner & Shareholder

September 3, 1976 – February 21, 2026

Cedar Tree Native Law was built on shared vision and values, and Michelle’s belief in the power of Indigenous women’s leadership was at the heart of it all.  We carry her forward in everything we do.

Michelle Fox was one of the founding shareholders of Cedar Tree Native Law and one of its guiding lights — a visionary attorney, a fierce advocate for her clients, and a beloved colleague and friend.  She approached the practice of Indian law not only with exceptional skill, but with profound care for her team, for her clients, and for the communities they serve across Indian country.

Michelle did things differently.   She led with trust, built up the people around her, and believed deeply in what Cedar Tree could become.  Her legacy is woven into the fabric of this firm in the way we work, the clients we serve, and the standards we hold ourselves to.

We extend our deepest condolences to Michelle’s family and to all who were touched by her light.  We stand committed to realizing her vision, and we will honor her memory by continuing to provide the excellent, fearless legal advocacy she championed throughout her career.
